GO BEHIND THE SCENES AT ST. NONNA’S CHURCH. ALTARNUN.
HAVE A GO AT “CHIMING THE BELL” AND CLIMB THE TOWER TO SEE THE EIGHT BELLS AND SEE AND HEAR A BELL IN ACTION.
As part of the National Heritage Open Days – for one day only, on Saturday 9th September 2017, between 2pm and 5pm – Altarnun church tower is to be opened for visitors to see a demonstration of ringing, and have a go at “chiming a bell”. Then climb the 97 steps of the stone spiral staircase to the BELL CHAMBER. See the eight bells and see and hear a bell in action.
This event is free, and is for visitors from age 10 upwards. IMPORTANT: The climb up the tower’s 97 narrow steps in the spiral staircase is physically demanding, so visitors must be fit to cope with this activity. Small groups will be escorted up and back down the tower. Each group visit will last for approximately 20 minutes.
To help make the visit enjoyable and informative – there are limited places available. So visits to the tower are by “Booking only”.
