Major new commission by Stephen McNeff based on a libretto by Cornish poet Charles Causley. This performance will bring together both amateur and professional musicians, as well as local schoolchildren from the Cornish community. It will mark the 125th Anniversary of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and celebrate the centenary of Causley, among the most important British poets of his generation.
The commission will be a new opera oratorio based on Causley’s The Burning Boy, a libretto written some years before his death that remains one of the most important, but as yet unperformed, Causley texts.
BSO ensemble Kokoro, which specialises in promoting the works of twentieth and twenty-first century composers, will perform the new opera in two venues across Cornwall.
